a scarf and flowers

Both the scarf and the house are finished. The house is wonderful. Sometimes I just have to sit down to take it all in. It's still a bit unreal - like being on holiday in a house belonging to someone else and not really knowing where things are or which switch turns on which light or how to use the oven. There is still a bit of unpacking to do but things are running pretty smoothly.

The scarf is, by comparison, less amazing than the house, but still good. I think the blocks of colour work well. It can look different depending on how it's tied. And I'm quite liking the shorter length  - so much easier to wear. Here's an even shorter, cuter one

And here is the start of my next knitting project. These little flowers are deceptively easy to make. I followed the instructions in Jane Brocket's book The gentle art of knitting.

And, finally, some more Alstroemeria. You're probably over Alstroemeria but can you have too much of a good thing?

Listening Birdy by Birdy + Reading How to be a woman by Caitlin Moran (funny, annoying, true) + Watching Girls (TV series, created by and starring the amazing  Lena Dunham) + Missing Louie - a lot.

Autumn knitting

I do love stripes. And for a long time I've wanted to knit a baby blanket for no other reason than just to make one. This project from Purl Bee brings it all together. The recommended yarn for the free pattern is Alchemy Temple - not available in New Zealand and I couldn't wait to buy online. Now that the weather is cooling down a bit I'm impatient to get knitting. So I've substituted what I hope is a similar yarn from Zara - a lovely, soft, machine-washable merino. Unfortunately there was a limited colour range of mainly autumn shades at my local wool shop but I've chosen four colours that I think might work. The pattern is all garter stitch - easy, quick, reversible (it comes out the same on both sides). And it has stripes. Perfect. Thank you, Purl Bee.

A little boy needs a warm sweater for a cold English winter.

I just finished knitting this chunky sweater for my nephew's baby son. It's been a while in the making but I'm pleased with the result. I love knitting cable patterns. It's a bit like magic how they turn out.
The pattern is from an old knitting book by Shepherd yarns and I used a machine washable wool.
